Hello dear readers! Welcome back to another section of my tutorial on Python. In this tutorial guide, we are going to be studying about the Os removedirs() method.

The Python os removedirs() method removes directories repeatedly. If the leaf directory is completely removed, then removedirs tries to successively remove every parent directory that is displayed in path.

Syntax

The following below is the syntax for Python Os removedirs() method -

os.removedirs( path )

Parameter Details

  • path — This is the path which is to be removed.

Return Value

It does not return any value.

Example

The following below is a simple example -

# !/usr/bin/python

import os, sys

# listing directories
print "The dir is: %s" %os.listdir(os.getcwd())

# removing
os.removedirs("/tutorialsdir")

# listing directories after removing directory
print "The dir after removal is:" %os.listdir(os.getcwd())

Output

When the above code is executed, it will produce the following result -

The dir is: [ 'a1.txt','resume.doc','a3.py','tutorialsdir','amrood.admin' ] The dir after removal is: [ 'a1.txt','resume.doc','a3.py','amrood.admin' ]

Alright guys! This is where we are rounding up for this tutorial post. In my next tutorial, we are going to be discussing about the Python OS rename() Method.
